Iran Holds Military Drill

Iran conducted a large-scale naval military drill “Sustainable Power 1404” in the Gulf of Oman and northern Indian Ocean on Thursday, 21 August 2025. This was Iran’s first solo exercise since its brief war with Israel in June 2025. The two-day exercise focused on naval and missile capabilities. It featured surface and sub-surface vessels, sea-based missile platforms, air units and electronic warfare brigades. Precision-strike cruise missiles, including the ‘Nasir’ and ‘Qadir’ and drones including ‘Bavar-5’ were fired.

Analysts view it as part of Iran’s broader strategy to reinforce deterrence, project strength and signal its military preparedness, amid ongoing military tensions. These drills took place around a month after the Iran-Russia drill named “Casarex 2025” in Caspian Sea.

Israel attacked Iran in a 12-day air-war which the U.S. also briefly joined. Iran counter-attacked attacked Israel with missiles and drones.

US President Donald Trump has threatened to strike Iran again if it revives nuclear facilities including Uranium enrichment plants. Iran suspended nuclear negotiations with the US after the Israeli and US airstrikes. Iran says it seeks only civilian nuclear power.

Meanwhile, Iran and three European powers (UK, France, and Germany) have agreed to resume nuclear, and sanctions talks soon.

Iran had limited its cooperation with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), but an Iranian delegation and IAEA officials have agreed to talks in Vienna soon.
