Client: A leading data centre service provider in South India

The Situation

A prominent provider of Tier 4 data centres was setting up a new facility intended to serve BFSI, cloud, and hyperscale clients. As this was a greenfield development, the organisation required a comprehensive Threat Risk Vulnerability Assessment (TRVA) before commissioning. The goal was to identify potential physical security gaps at the design stage and implement risk mitigation measures aligned with global best practices.

Our Response

MitKat deployed a team of physical security consultants, threat analysts, and critical infrastructure planners. The engagement covered the entire physical environment, site boundary, building shell, MEP layouts, control rooms, and future customer zones. Using global standards (ISO 31000, NFPA 730, CPTED), we conducted:

  • Threat vector identification for intrusion, sabotage, and internal misuse
  • Design audits to assess perimeter security, surveillance, and access control zones
  • Risk scoring and heat maps across proposed zones
  • Recommendations integrated into construction sequencing

The assessment also included emergency preparedness evaluation for power outages, fire scenarios, and access breaches.

Outcome

The facility was able to integrate all risk recommendations into the build schedule, ensuring that security upgrades did not require later rework. Surveillance blind spots, perimeter vulnerabilities, and access bottlenecks were addressed in time. Upon go-live, the data centre achieved an optimized security footprint and a seamless path to ISO 27001 and SSAE 18 compliance.
