Thailand’s military has closed all land border crossings into Cambodia across seven provinces amid rising tension over border dispute. According to official statements from Thai Army and Navy seven provinces including Ubon Ratchathani, Surin, Buriram, Sri Sa Ket, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, and Trat were closed. Only individuals requiring urgent medical care and student with valid educational needs would be allowed to travel across the border.
Bilateral relations have sharply deteriorated since a deadly border skirmish in May 2025, which resulted in the death of a Cambodian soldier. The event has triggered retaliatory measures from both the sides.
Cambodia has banned Thai TV shows, cut internet bandwidth, and suspended trade with Thailand. While Thailand has restricted its visas and is also considering curbing exports linked to cybercrime operations in Cambodia.
Domestically, Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is facing political backlash after a leaked call with former Cambodian PM Hun Sen.
