Vietnam has upgraded its ties with the European Union to a comprehensive strategic partnership, the country’s highest diplomatic level, after a visit by European Council President António Costa to Hanoi. The increasing diplomatic ties between Vietnam and the EU are aimed at expanding global partnership amid global disruptions and US tariff pressure. The decision places the EU on the same diplomatic footing as the United States, China, and Russia. The upgraded ties would mean more frequent high-level meetings, a stronger partnership, and increased cooperation in various sectors, including defence and semiconductors.
