The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has raised the alert level for Mayon Volcano in Albay Province from Alert Level 2 (increasing unrest) to Alert Level 3 (increased tendency towards hazardous eruption). Since 01 January, 346 rockfall events and four volcanic earthquakes have been observed, a significant rise compared to the 599 rockfall events recorded between November and December 2025. Authorities have advised residents living within a six-kilometre radius of the volcano to evacuate. Additionally, flying planes near the volcano’s crater is prohibited.
