Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki Likely to Become Nepal’s Interim PM
Nepal’s former chief justice, Sushila Karki, is the likely candidate for interim prime minister amid ongoing political turmoil. However, the formation of interim administration has been delayed amid disagreements over whether Parliament should be dissolved. Her name has gained traction following the resignation of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli on 09 September. The move comes in response to nationwide anti-corruption demonstrations, largely driven by the youth (Gen Z). Initially triggered by a social media ban, these protests have shaken the political establishment and turned violent, leaving at least 51 people dead and many others injured. Karki’s nomination is seen as an attempt to restore stability and calm in the country.
