Iran is experiencing its worst water crisis in decades. Most of the five major dams supplying water to Tehran are at extremely low capacities, with an average of around 10 percent capacity. Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian stated on 06 November that water rationing would be needed in Tehran if rainfall does not arrive by December. He also cautioned that continued drought could necessitate the evacuation of citizens from Tehran, a city of more than 10 million. The water crisis has been exacerbated by excessive dam construction and illegal well drilling, in addition to the weather conditions.
