Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that he would declare a state of emergency in the country’s energy sector. Ukraine’s utility infrastructures have faced widespread damage due to sustained Russian attacks, which have worsened conditions amid low temperatures. In recent weeks, Russian attacks have left thousands of homes without power, heating or running water. A round-the-clock task force would be established to repair the damage to utility infrastructure, and vital energy equipment would be procured from abroad. President Zelenskiy also called for the establishment of more heating centres where residents can stay warm and charge electronic devices.
