Overnight Russian missile and drone attacks on Kyiv have resulted in major disruptions to the water and power supply. The disruptions come amid an ongoing energy crisis across the city and freezing temperatures. Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Zelensky declared a state of emergency in the energy sector on 14 January, as repeated Russian strikes have caused widespread damage to utility infrastructure. As of early 20 January, more than 5,000 buildings were without heat, and around 70 percent of the city was without electricity. Public utilities and energy companies are working to restore heat, water, and electricity.
