The United Kingdom has enforced a new travel permit requirement for foreign visitors from 85 countries, including the United States, Canada, and Australia, that previously did not require a visa. The Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) is a digital permit that allows individuals to travel to the UK and stay in the country for up to six months. The process aims to streamline the immigration system and it quicker and more secure. The ETA requirement was introduced in October 2023 but was not strictly enforced to allow travellers time to adjust to the changes. British and Irish citizens, including dual citizens, are exempt from requiring an ETA.
