The Syrian government and the main Kurdish group, Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), have announced an agreement for a ceasefire and the integration of Kurdish civilian and military authorities under the central government. The decision comes after days of clashes between Syrian troops and Kurdish groups in northeastern Syria, including Aleppo. The deal includes the dismantling of the SDF and the government’s formal takeover of Raqqa and Deir el-Zour provinces. The ceasefire marks a critical step towards the government gaining full authority over the country. However, the situation remains fragile as past attempts have resulted in little progress and clashes.
