Russia Launches Attack on Ukraine’s Energy Grid
On 30 October, Russia launched drone and missile strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, leading to power outages and restrictions across Ukraine and seven casualties. The strikes targeted critical energy facilities, including thermal power stations and substations, across nine regions, including Zaporizhzhia and Lviv. Ukrainian officials have described the attacks as a systematic campaign that aimed at damaging the power grid ahead of winter, which could severely impact central heating and water supplies and escalate operational risks for businesses.
