On 09 September, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched a series of drone attacks on vital military and logistical targets in the Sudanese army-controlled Khartoum state. The strikes, the first in months, reportedly hit the main oil refinery, power stations, and a fuel depot. The RSF, which claimed responsibility, stated the attacks were in response to recent army airstrikes conducted on Darfur and Kordofan. The renewed drone attacks highlight a significant escalation in the 2.5-year civil war, which has created the world’s largest humanitarian crisis with no progress in mediation efforts.
