Nuclear Talks Between Iran and the US End Without a Deal
The latest round of talks between Iran and the United States over Iran’s nuclear programme ended without a deal on 26 February. However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi claimed that substantial progress was made during the talks mediated by Oman. Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi stated that negotiations are likely to resume on a technical level next week in Vienna. The major points of disagreement remain around the demand by the US for Iran to forgo uranium enrichment and Iran’s refusal to discuss its ballistic missile programme. As no breakthrough was achieved, concerns regarding escalation of regional tensions remain amid increased US military build-up in the Middle East.
