Mamady Doumbouya Wins Guinea’s Presidential Election
Mamady Doumbouya has been elected the president of Guinea after winning a majority of votes in the presidential election conducted on 28 December. The election was the first since the 2021 coup, led by Mamady Doumbouya. Initial polling results indicate that Mamady Doumbouya won 86.72 percent of the votes, securing an absolute majority that allows him to avoid a runoff. The results face widespread allegations of fraud from opposition and civil society groups. If the results are challenged, the Supreme Court has eight days to validate the election results.
