Various parts of Iran faced internet outages on 08 January as protests over economic conditions spread nationwide. The protests began on 28 December amid a sharp fall in the value of the Iranian currency against the US dollar and increased inflation. Since then, widespread protests have continued, with multiple clashes reported between protestors and police authorities. According to official statements, at least 21 casualties were reported due to the clashes. Demonstrations reached all 31 provinces on 08 January. Heightened security measures and restrictions are likely to continue as the protests are expected to persist.
