German Chancellor Friedrich Merz began his three-day visit to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates on 04 February. The aim of the visit is to form new energy and arms partnerships with the Middle Eastern countries to reduce Germany’s dependence on the United States and China. Chancellor Merz is also expected to discuss broader regional issues, including stability and cooperation, as well as normalization with Israel.
