France: Government Survives Two No-Confidence Votes
The French government, led by Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu, survived two no-confidence motions following the government’s adoption of a new energy law earlier this month. The new energy strategy, which scaled back renewable energy targets, was implemented by decree after nearly three years of disagreements between lawmakers. The no-confidence motions were filed by the National Rally (RN) party, backed by 140 parliament members, and the France Unbowed (LFI) party, backed by 108 members. 289 votes are needed for a motion to pass in the French parliament.
