Ebola Outbreak in Congo Kills 30
Two weeks after the declaration of an Ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo, 31 deaths have been reported among 48 confirmed cases. It is the first Ebola outbreak in the country in three years. The World Health Organization (WHO) has identified over 900 contacts, though no confirmed cases outside Congo have been reported. Congo’s dense tropical forests are considered a natural reservoir for the Ebola virus. Accessibility challenges and limited storage infrastructure present impediments to vaccine transport and distribution. The WHO has appealed for USD 21 million to scale up the response.
