The E3 powers France, Germany, and the United Kingdom have informed the UN that they are prepared to use a “snapback mechanism” to reimpose sanctions on Iran if a diplomatic solution regarding its nuclear program is not reached by the end of August. The letter, sent to the UN, alleges Iran’s suspension of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and its increased uranium stockpile which exceeds the permitted level under the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as the key breaches. Iran’s Foreign Minister has disputed the E3’s legal right to reimpose sanctions and warned that such an action would end the E3’s role as mediator
