Canada, UK, Portugal and Australia Recognise Palestinian State
On September 21, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Portugal formally recognized a Palestinian state. The coordinated announcements were made in response to the “steady and grave” erosion of the two-state solution, citing accelerated Israeli settlement building and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. While the Palestinian Authority expressed gratitude, Israel’s foreign ministry condemned the move as a “reward for Hamas.” The actions highlight a growing diplomatic split with the United States on the issue.
