Bulgarian President Rumen Radev Resigns
Bulgarian President Rumen Radev announced that he would formally submit his resignation to the Constitutional Court on 20 January. President Radev was elected as the president in 2016 and 2021. If the court approves his resignation, Vice President Iliana Iotova would assume the position until the presidential elections in November. President Radev’s decision comes amid speculations that he would form his own political party and run in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Although polls suggest good public support for President Radev, it is unlikely that he will win an outright majority if he runs for the elections.
