Bulgarian Government Resigns After Large-scale Protests
Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov announced the government’s resignation on 11 December, just before a scheduled no-confidence vote. This decision followed weeks of mass demonstrations across the country, protesting economic policies and a perceived failure to combat corruption. It seems unlikely that the parties in parliament would form a new government, which would prompt a new election, the eighth in four years. The political instability is likely to create a significant legislative vacuum, posing regulatory and operational uncertainty for businesses.
