United States President Donald Trump and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung finalized a trade deal during their summit in South Korea on 29 October. The reciprocal tariffs imposed would be reduced from 25 percent to 15 percent as agreed in July. South Korea will also invest USD 350 billion in the US, which includes USD 200 billion in cash investment and USD 150 billion in shipbuilding. President Trump also approved the building of a nuclear-powered submarine in South Korea. The deal eases immediate trade tensions, provides stability for South Korean exporters, like automotive manufacturers, and marks a shift toward state-directed investment in US strategic sectors.
