United States President announced a trade agreement with Chinese President Xi Jinping following their bilateral meeting on 30 October, their first in six years. The deal involves a reduction of overall US tariffs on Chinese goods from 57 percent to 47 percent, with fentanyl-linked duties lowered from 20 percent to 10 percent. In return, China would resume significant purchases of US agricultural products, primarily soybeans, and agreed to curb the production of fentanyl. Furthermore, a one-year, annually renewable agreement on the supply of rare earth materials was also reached. This partial de-escalation of the trade war provides relief to affected sectors and signals a crucial, albeit fragile, diplomatic thaw.
