Top economic officials from the United States and China began talks in Paris regarding a bilateral trade deal between the countries. Officials from both countries met for more than six hours on 15 March and are expected to continue discussions about US tariffs, rare earth minerals, and Chinese purchases of US agricultural products on 16 March. The discussions follow increased tensions between the countries over tariffs and an eventual trade truce declared in October 2025 after a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The talks are also seen as groundwork before a potential visit by President Trump to China.
