Typhoon Podul Makes Landfall
Typhoon Podul made landfall on Taiwan’s southeast coast on 13 August, with winds of up to 191 kilometers per hour (118 mph). The storm has caused widespread disruption, leading to the cancellation of 252 domestic and 129 international flights. Authorities have evacuated over 5,500 people and mobilized more than 31,500 soldiers for relief efforts. The typhoon is expected to bring up to 600 mm (almost 24 inches) of rain to southern mountainous areas over the next few days. The typhoon is further expected to move towards China’s Fujian province.
