On 09 October, acting Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi arrived in India for his first official visit since Taliban’s 2021 takeover, following a UN sanction waiver. He is set to meet Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar on political, economic, and trade issues. India does not officially recognize the Taliban but reopened a small mission in Kabul in 2022 for trade and aid. The visit follows a Moscow meeting with Russia, India, China, Pakistan, and Taliban representatives opposing foreign military infrastructure in Afghanistan, hinting at recent US President’s remarks on the Bagram airbase.
