Protests were reported in Kathmandu, Nepal on 08 September, sparked by the government’s shutdown of 26 social media platforms, including Instagram and WhatsApp, which allegedly refused to register with the government. A curfew has been imposed in capital Kathmandu from 1230 hours to 2200 hours local time, after the protest escalated and demonstrators breached the parliament’s premises. Security forces reportedly used water cannons, tear gas, and live ammunition, leading to the death of one protester and dozens of injuries. As authorities maintain a heightened security presence, protests are expected to continue, and businesses are urged to remain vigilant for potential disruptions, including internet service cuts.
