Pakistan and Taliban Agree to 48-Hour Ceasefire
On 15 October, local time 18:00 hours, Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban agreed to a 48-hour temporary ceasefire, following days of deadly cross-border clashes and Pakistani strikes in Kandahar and Kabul. The violence, the worst since 2021, stems from Pakistan’s claim that the Taliban is sheltering the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which Kabul denies. The brief truce is intended to allow dialogue to resolve the dispute. Hostilities could resume at any time, heightening regional instability, threatening border security, and disrupting crucial trade.
