Indonesia: Mount Semeru Volcano Eruption Forces Evacuations
More than 300 residents in Lumajang, East Java, were forced to evacuate after Mount Semeru erupted, blanketing several villages with falling ash and clouds of smoke. Indonesia’s volcanology agency raised the volcano’s alert from the third highest level to the highest level as the eruptions continued. Authorities widened the danger zone to 08 km from the crater due to its increased activity and advised residents to avoid entering the area.
