India and Malaysia deepened their bilateral ties and pledged increased collaboration on semiconductors and defence amid Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Malaysia. The visit is PM Modi’s first since the countries formed a comprehensive strategic partnership in August 2024. The countries signed 11 agreements for various sectors during the visit, including renewable energy, disaster management and peacekeeping. The leaders also discussed cooperation to increase overall bilateral trade between the countries and India’s efforts to open a consulate in Malaysia’s Sabah state.
