Evacuations and Heavy Rainfall Warning as Typhoon Fung-wong Approaches Taiwan
Typhoon Fung-wong, weakened into a tropical storm, is forecast to land at the southwestern coast of Taiwan on 12 November after causing widespread destruction and multiple casualties in the Philippines. Authorities have evacuated more than 3,000 people on 11 November and issued land warnings as the storm is expected to cause torrential rainfall in the country’s mountainous east coast. The typhoon has led to the closure of schools and offices in Hualien and Yilan, as well as the cancellation of 66 flights, on 11 November. Heavy rainfall could lead to flooding and landslides in low-lying and mountainous areas.
