A 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck near the Gorashal area in Bangladesh on 21 November, with strong tremors felt in Kolkata, other districts of West Bengal and the northeastern states of India. The epicentre of the quake was 10 km east-southeast of Dhaka. The earthquake caused the collapse of some makeshift structures, damage to buildings and six casualties in Dhaka. Aftershocks can be expected as the earthquake struck at a shallow depth of 10 km.
