US, Venezuela Agree to Re-Establish Diplomatic Ties
The United States and Venezuela have agreed to restore diplomatic and consular relations, following US Interior Secretary Doug Burgum’s two-day trip to Venezuela. Both sides have stated that they would make joint efforts to promote stability, support economic recovery, and advance political reconciliation. Gradual re-establishment of relations between the US and Venezuela began after the US military captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in January. The countries have also agreed to collaborate on developing mining in Venezuela.
