Two Deadly Attacks in Colombia
On 22 August, at least 18 people were killed and dozens were injured in two separate attacks in Colombia. The incidents have been attributed to dissident factions of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). In the first attack, a car bomb detonated near a military base in Cali, resulting in six fatalities and at least 71 injuries. The second incident involved a National Police helicopter that was reportedly shot down by a drone in the municipality of Amalfi, leading to the deaths of 12 officers. Colombian President Gustavo Petro has stated that FARC dissident groups, which have rejected the 2016 peace agreement, are responsible for the assaults.
