Train Derailment in Mexico Leads to At Least 13 Casualties
A train, travelling between the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean, derailed on 28 December near Nizanda, Asunción Ixtaltepec, on the train’s main line between Veracruz and Salina Cruz. The train was carrying 250 people, and the accident caused the death of at least 13 people and injured around 100. Rail services were suspended on the line following the incident, and investigations have begun into its cause. The derailment could lead to operational disruptions for freight and passenger movement across the Isthmus of Tehuantepec while investigation and recovery operations continue.
