Jose Balcazar has been appointed as the new interim president by the Peruvian Congress, following the ouster of the former interim president, Jose Jeri, on 17 February. Jose Balcazar becomes the country’s eighth president in eight years and will also assume the role of the head of Congress. He will remain in office until the end of the current president’s term on 28 July. The interim government led by President Balcazar is faced with multiple challenges, including overseeing a credible election in April.
