Salvador Nasralla, presidential candidate of the Liberal Party, has formally challenged the results of the Honduran presidential election conducted on 30 November. Nasry Asfura was declared the winner of the election on 24 December after weeks of delays, fraud allegations, and protests. Nasralla’s legal team filed an appeal with Honduras’ Electoral Justice Tribunal (TJE) on 29 December, after which the tribunal requested additional documentation before deciding whether to admit the challenge. Nasry Asfura’s party, the National Party of Honduras, has denied any allegations of fraud. This development heightens political tensions and could lead to civil unrest.
