An outage at Cloudflare, a web infrastructure company that handles a significant portion of global internet traffic, disrupted services for major platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and Canva, for several hours on 18 November. Cloudflare identified the cause as a “latent bug” triggered by a routine configuration change and stated there was no evidence of malicious activity. This incident underscores the critical infrastructure vulnerability inherent in the internet’s concentration within a few large Content Delivery Network (CDN) providers, posing a systemic operational risk for globally dependent businesses.
