French Prime Minister Loses Confidence Vote

France is plunged into political crisis as members of parliament voted to oust the prime minister. Frances’s National Assembly voted by 364 votes to 194 to oust the PM from office and bring down his minority government. 25 MPs abstained.

Ousted PM Francois Bayrou will submit his resignation to President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday, 09 September morning. Bayrou had called the surprise vote of confidence after huge opposition to his budget plans.

President Emmanuel Macron faces a choice between calling a snap election or picking a fifth prime minister in less than two years.

Bayrou has lost, but the enormous pile of debt he inherited, highlighted and tried to solve, remain.
