Client: Global Management Consulting Firm
Location: Colombo, Sri Lanka
Sector: Professional Services
Amid violent protests, fuel shortages, and city-wide curfews during the socio-political unrest in Sri Lanka, a global consulting firm required immediate support to safeguard its staff and maintain business continuity in Colombo.
MitKat Advisory was engaged to deliver end-to-end crisis response. The primary objective was to ensure safe mobility, continuous communication, and Executive Protection in Sri Lanka, despite deteriorating local conditions and government-imposed restrictions.
The Situation
Amid widespread protests and curfews in Colombo, the client, a global consulting firm, had local and expat staff on ground with no secure exit or communication route.
Key risks included:
- Civil Unrest: Protests disrupted safe access to key sites.
- Fuel Shortages: Vehicle availability and route viability were uncertain daily.
- Curfews & Military Zones: Sudden lockdowns posed entrapment risks.
- Communication Blackouts: Outages delayed updates and coordination.
MitKat was activated to secure movement, ensure team safety, and maintain operational continuity under pressure.
MitKat’s Response
Risk Analysis & Local Coordination
MitKat conducted on-ground threat assessments and worked closely with law enforcement to identify safe movement corridors. Curfew restrictions and protest routes were monitored in real time to ensure uninterrupted business continuity and protection.
Deployment of Quick Reaction Team (QRT)
A dedicated Quick Reaction Team was activated with a trained military professional, secure vehicle, and local driver on standby 24/7. This unit was tasked with providing direct Executive Protection in Sri Lanka to senior personnel and their family members, ensuring readiness in case of sudden extraction or rapid movement.
Communication Continuity
With mobile networks disrupted in many parts of the city, MitKat enabled parallel communication through WhatsApp, Signal, and Teams. A private emergency channel was linked to MitKat’s central War Room to support ongoing updates and backup command.
Route & Resource Management
Alternate fuel supplies were arranged and stored at secure locations. Parallel routes were identified to bypass blocked areas and military checkpoints. Transport was staggered based on individual movement plans, ensuring that Executive Protection in Sri Lanka remained operational throughout.
Result
- All employees, including expats, remained safe and accounted for
- Movement was executed despite curfews and roadblocks with police coordination
- Business functions continued without disruption or reputational risk
- No incidents of escalation, protest, or fuel-related delay were reported
This case reinforces the value of structured, locally aligned crisis response during periods of civil disruption. MitKat’s proactive deployment of secure movement, communication fallback, and tailored Executive Protection in Sri Lanka enabled business as usual, even amid unrest.
