Countering the Threat from Drones

The drone threat landscape is complex, diverse, diffused, amorphous and evolving. Threats range from an amateur pilot carelessly flying a consumer drone, to insurgents/terrorists dropping bombs and drugs, to highly sophisticated military applications.

The threat from drones – to critical assets and public infrastructure – is well and truly here. Terrorists and adversaries may employ it imaginatively to gain tactical advantage. In the strife-torn Indian state of Manipur, violence returned after a four-month pause, with suspected extremists killing two persons and injuring at least six others, including two police personnel, in a gun-and-bomb attack using β€œhigh-tech #drones” on Sunday, reports The Hindu.

Drones have become more lethal due to ease of availability, affordability, mass production, ease of flying with minimum infrastructural requirements, variety of payloads, ability to bypass legacy security measures, the difficulty of detection, speed and versatility of attacks.

The standard security measures will not work against rogue drones and therefore specific countermeasures, both active and passive, need to be incorporated in the security framework, to mitigate the threat from rogue drones.

MitKat Advisory helps niche clients map #threats, #vulnerabilities and #risks to critical assets from #drones and unmanned aerial systems (UAS), make help and implement recommendations to mitigate risks to acceptable levels. If your organisation wants to be ready for future drone threats, we can assist you in securing your critical assets.
