Air India Flight Crashes Near Ahmedabad Shortly After Takeoff; Emergency Operations Underway

In a tragic incident, an Air India aircraft carrier travelling from Ahmedabad to London crashed shortly after take-off on Thursday, 12 June. This triggered a large-scale emergency response in the city. The flight departed from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1400 hours (IST), was reported to have gone down near the IGB compound in Meghani Nagar, close to Ghoda Camp, after its rear portion allegedly struck a tree.

The aircraft was carrying 242 passengers at the time of the crash. As of now, there has been no official confirmation regarding casualties or survivors. Emergency response units including fire brigades, rescue teams, and ambulances, rushed to the site, sealing off the surrounding areas to facilitate relief efforts.

Due to the crash, authorities have implemented road closures in Meghani Nagar, Ghoda camp and the IGB compound. Ahmedabad Airport has been shut down and incoming flights to the airport are either delayed or diverted until further notice from airport authorities.

Union Home Minister of India, Amit Shah has spoken with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the state Home Minister, and the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner, offering the Centre’s full support.

As the situation continues to unfold, authorities remain focused on rescue and containment. The local administration, supported by national agencies, is expected to provide further updates as more verified information becomes available.
