Tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan continue escalating following a strike by Pakistan in the Afghan capital, Kabul. Pakistan has stated that the strike targeted ‘military installations and terrorist support infrastructure’ in the city. However, officials from Afghanistan claim that the attack affected civilian infrastructure and a hospital, leading to over 400 casualties and injuries to around 250 people. Fire extinguishing and rescue operations are ongoing. The recent tensions between the two countries began in late February, resulting in multiple cross-border attacks and the collapse of the ceasefire brokered between the countries by Qatar in October 2025.
