Indonesia and Australia have planned to expand their security cooperation to include Japan and Papua New Guinea, following a meeting between the defence ministers of both countries. The security pact between Indonesia and Australia was signed last month, committing the countries to consult with each other if either is threatened. The expansion plan includes trilateral security arrangements among Indonesia, Australia, and Japan, as well as between Indonesia, Australia, and Papua New Guinea. The ministers also discussed the possibility of developing a defence training facility on Morotai, an Indonesian island, which could be accessed by military personnel from the Philippines, Australia, and Singapore.
