Colombia's Ruling Party Wins Most Seats in Legislative Elections
Colombia’s ruling party, the Historic Pact, led by President Gustavo Petro, has secured the most seats in the legislative elections held on 08 March. The ruling party won 25 seats out of 102 Senate seats, while the Democratic Center, led by former President Alvaro Uribe, finished second with 17 seats. Although the Historic Pact has won the most seats, it failed to secure an absolute majority, which would necessitate coalition building. Additionally, the ruling party would face hurdles to pass legislative reforms if its presidential candidate, Ivan Cepeda, fails to win the presidential election in May.
