Turkey has stated that NATO forces intercepted and shot down an Iranian ballistic missile over Turkish airspace on 09 March amid escalating regional tensions. The missile was the second missile intercepted in Turkey since the start of the recent escalations in the Middle East. The intercepted missile posed a threat to populated areas in southeastern Turkey and nearby NATO facilities. No casualties or injuries were reported. Iran has denied allegations of a strike targeting Turkey and has offered to set up a joint inquiry into the incident during a call between Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
