Heavy rainfall over the last few days in Kenya has caused widespread flooding and disruptions. As of 08 March, the flooding has resulted in at least 42 casualties, with 26 recorded deaths in Nairobi. Over 50,000 people have been displaced due to the floods. The weather conditions also lead to significant disruptions to transportation. Emergency search and rescue operations continue in affected regions. Heavy rainfall is forecast to continue throughout 09 March. Officials have warned about the heightened risk of flash floods and landslides due to saturated soils. Residents near the Nairobi River and other water bodies have been advised to move to higher ground.
