Australia, Canada Sign New Critical Minerals Agreement

Australia and Canada have signed a new agreement on critical minerals during Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s visit to Australia. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated that Australia would join the Canada-led G7 critical minerals production alliance, which aims to diversify and secure global critical minerals production and supply. This agreement comes amid attempts by the countries to diversify their supply chains and decrease dependence on China and the United States. The leaders have also agreed to increase cooperation in defence and maritime security, trade, and artificial intelligence.
